Several polls show former President Trump leading or competitive with President Biden in Texas and nationally.
A Marist poll found Trump leading Biden by 11 points in Texas, up from a 5.5 point victory in 2020, with increased support from Black, Latino and independent voters.
“Independents, who Biden carried by 6 percentage points in 2020, now break for Trump. Trump receives 56% of Texas independents to 41% for Biden,” Marist reported.
The poll also showed Republican Senator Ted Cruz leading Democratic Congressman Colin Allred by 6 points in their Senate race.
Other polls found the presidential race nearly tied nationally, with immigration, the economy and inflation as top issues for voters, and Trump receiving higher ratings than Biden on handling the economy and other issues.
“Among independents, Cruz (50%) is up by eight percentage points against Allred (42%),” Maris reported. “There is a wide gender gap. Cruz (59%) carries men by 21 percentage points over Allred (38%). Allred (52%) tops Cruz (44%) among women.”
The polls indicate Biden losing ground on key issues and suggest the election remains unsettled.
