Donald Trump has filed a defamation lawsuit against ABC News and anchor George Stephanopoulos over comments made during an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace in March 2023.
During the interview, Stephanopoulos falsely claimed that judges and two separate juries found Trump “liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape.”
However, no jury has ever found Trump liable for rape.
I said at the time Trump had a defamation case against @GStephanopoulos and @ABC over the false claim a jury found him liable for rape (in reality, NOT liable). That's basically defamation "per se." Now Trump has sued. He often does. This time he's right. https://t.co/HTfYpIpSFx

Stephanopoulos made the statements “with actual malice or with a reckless disregard for the truth,” Trump attorney Alejandro Brito said.
“Indeed, the jury expressly found that Plaintiff did not commit rape and, as demonstrated below, Defendant George Stephanopoulos was aware of the jury’s finding in this regard yet still falsely stated otherwise,” Brito added.
Neither Stephanopoulos nor ABC News issued a correction.
The complaint, filed by Trump’s attorney, seeks unspecified damages and argues Stephanopoulos went beyond saying Trump was “liable” and specifically misstated that a jury found him liable for rape, which is untrue.
