A North Carolina radio host disputed a White House claim that his show deceptively edited an interview with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
After the host asked Jean-Pierre if President Biden has dementia, she became indignant and refused to answer, insisting the question was offensive.
A White House spokesman stated that WBT Charlotte “chose not to air the full interview and instead artificially attached a sound effect that our phones do not make when calls end.”
“The White House assertion that we added a sound effect is nonsense. When she hung up, the phone noise was purely from their end,” host Mark Garrison said.
When pressed on people’s concerns about Biden’s mental state, Jean-Pierre defended the president but would not give a definitive response.
“When I told a number of people that I was talking to you today — it was interesting, though — they all said, ‘Would you please just ask her, does the president have dementia?’” Garrison said. “So before I move on from it, does he?”
“That, Mark, I can’t even believe you’re asking me this question,” Jean-Pierre said. “That is an incredibly offensive question to ask.”
“But you know people ask it,” Garrison said.
“Wait, oh, let me, no, no, no, no, no, you, Mark, you, you took, you’re taking us down this rabbit hole,” Jean-Pierre said.
She abruptly ended the interview after answering another question, and a busy signal could then be heard, contradicting the White House assertion that the show artificially added a sound effect.
“And with that, thank you so much, Mark, have an amazing, amazing day,” she said, hanging up.
The host provided the raw footage and denied any editing occurred.
“I don’t understand the fragility of this person,” Garrison’s cohost stated.
