Former President Barack Obama has expressed “grave concern” that President Joe Biden could lose the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump.
Obama is reportedly getting involved by making calls to Biden’s aides to discuss strategy, out of fear that Biden will not win reelection.
Biden has also been regularly consulting with Obama about the 2024 race.
Obama is said to be prepared to provide assistance to help Biden win what is expected to be a close election, as Biden currently trails Trump in several polls and has faced issues with low approval ratings and questions about his fitness for office.
This involvement from Obama comes as Biden works to defend himself against a special counsel report that raised concerns about Biden’s memory and ability to serve.
“We do not believe that the report’s treatment of President Biden’s memory is accurate or appropriate,” Biden’s lawyer Bob Bauer and special counsel Richard Sauber wrote. “The report uses highly prejudicial language to describe a commonplace occurrence among witnesses: a lack of recall of years-old events.”
