Former President Donald Trump will attend the wake of a New York City police officer who was fatally shot during a traffic stop earlier this week.
Officer Jonathan Diller, 31, was killed below his bulletproof vest while approaching an illegally parked car.
Trump, who is laying the groundwork for a 2024 presidential run, has made crime in Democratic-led cities a focus.
He wants to shield police from misconduct lawsuits as they tackle crime.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden will be in New York for a fundraiser with former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
Trump’s visit is meant to honor the fallen officer and support the NYPD as Trump criticizes crime in cities controlled by Democrats.
“President Trump is moved by the invitation to join NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller’s family and colleagues as they deal with his senseless and tragic death,” Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated.
