A CNN report claimed Donald Trump was in a state of “panic” over needing to secure a $464 million bond to appeal his New York fraud case.
A Trump spokesman, however, strongly denied the report as “baseless innuendo” and “fake news.”
“Former President Donald Trump is in panic mode as the deadline approaches to secure a half-billion-dollar bond to appeal his civil fraud case in New York, according to multiple sources familiar with his thinking,” CNN’s Kaitlan Collins wrote.
“These baseless innuendos are pure [expletive] and fake news,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung stated.
CNN has repeatedly used the phrase “walls are closing in” on Trump over the past few years, frequently implying an imminent downfall that has yet to materialize.
“President Trump has filed a motion to stay the unjust, unconstitutional, un-American judgment from New York Judge Arthur Engoron in a political Witch Hunt brought by a corrupt Attorney General,” Cheung said.
“A bond of this size would be an abuse of the law, contradict bedrock [principles] of our Republic, and fundamentally undermine the rule of law in New York. President Trump will continue fighting and beating all of these Crooked Joe Biden-directed hoaxes and will Make America Great Again.”
Some suggested the phrase may now better apply to CNN given declining viewership after Trump left office and potential further losses if he were to win reelection in 2024.
Critics likewise casted doubt on CNN’s characterization of Trump’s state of mind and shed light on the network’s past failed predictions of his political demise.
