Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann is facing backlash over a social media post some interpreted as expressing hope for Donald Trump’s assassination.
Olbermann responded to a Biden campaign video of a Trump speech where Trump compared his treatment to Lincoln, who was assassinated.
“Trump says he has been treated worse than Abraham Lincoln, who was assassinated,” the “Biden-Harris HQ” said.

“There’s always hope,” Olbermann said.
This drew accusations that Olbermann was calling for the assassination of someone he disagrees with politically.
Olbermann has a history of controversial social media posts that have prompted criticism, such as insulting a champion swimmer’s abilities and calling for an “economic civil war” between red and blue states.
His latest post reignited debate around threatening political figures, even if intended rhetorically by Olbermann, given the context of comparing Trump to Lincoln.
