A New York City judge denied former President Trump’s request to dismiss charges related to hush-money payments before the 2016 election.
The trial is set to start on March 25 and expected to last 6 weeks.
“I’m here for something, it’s not a crime, it’s election interference and it’s being run by Joe Biden’s White House,” Trump said, adding that it is a “terrible time for our country. A real dark period.”
Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records.
Despite seeking dismissal, the judge denied the request.
Trump criticized the case, claiming it’s election interference orchestrated by Biden’s administration.
He expressed frustration at being in court instead of campaigning.
The trial will coincide with political events, including the South Carolina primary.
Trump plans to campaign in the evenings during the trial.
The charges involve alleged falsification of business records to conceal criminal conduct during the 2016 election.
Federal prosecutors previously did not charge Trump over payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal.
This is one of several legal challenges Trump is facing, including investigations into the 2020 election and January 6 events.
Trump maintains his plea of not guilty.
