Cause Of Death Revealed For ‘Rocky’ Star Carl Weathers

Actor Carl Weathers, known for his roles in “Rocky,” “Happy Gilmore,” and “Predator,” passed away due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease at the age of 76.

His death certificate revealed that he had been battling the heart condition for years. Weathers’ family announced his passing and celebrated his legacy in film, television, and sports.

Weathers’ family wrote, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life.”

“His legacy in film, television, the arts, and sports has made an indelible mark, earning recognition and admiration worldwide and across generations. He was dearly loved as a brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend,” their statement continued.

Sylvester Stallone, his co-star in “Rocky,” paid a heartfelt tribute, emphasizing Weathers’ significant impact on his life and their collaborative success.

Sylvester Stallone said, “I’m so torn up I can’t even tell you. I’m just trying to hold it in because Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life, my success, everything about it.”

“I give him incredible credit and kudos because when he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness. But I didn’t realize how great. I never could have accomplished what we did with Rocky without him. He was absolutely brilliant,” he continued.

Weathers filmed a Super Bowl commercial with NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski before his passing.
