President Joe Biden faced a press conference following the release of a report by special counsel Robert Hur, concluding that Biden wouldn’t face charges over handling classified information from before his presidency.
Biden was combative, disputing Hur’s claims about his memory but made inaccurate statements, contradicting the report.
“All the stuff that was in my home was in filing cabinets that were either locked or able to be locked,” Biden said.
He contrasted his handling of classified material with Donald Trump’s, but the report revealed inaccuracies in Biden’s claims.
It detailed instances where classified documents were found in unsecured locations in Biden’s home, contradicting his assertions about their secure storage.
Biden “should have known” that “he was not permitted to keep handwritten notes about the President’s Daily Brief and other classified information in unlocked drawers in his home,” Hur wrote.
Biden falsely claimed that none of the material was highly classified, whereas the report revealed several documents marked as “Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information.”
“None of it was high classified. It didn’t have any of that red stuff on it, you know what I mean, around the corners? None of that,” Biden said.
The report also indicated that Biden shared classified information with his ghostwriter, despite his denial.
“Mr. Biden wrote down obviously sensitive information discussed during intelligence briefings with then President Obama and meetings in the White House Situation Room about matters of national security and military and foreign policy,” Hur wrote.
