John Kirby of the White House claimed that Hamas does not represent the majority of the Palestinian people, emphasizing the need for a reformed Palestinian Authority.
“We know that Hamas does not represent the vast majority of the Palestinian people,” John Kirby said.
However, polling data contradicts this assertion, showing significant support for Hamas among Palestinians. (Trending: Kid Rock Rages Against ‘Woke’ Target)
Recent polls indicate Hamas enjoys majority or plurality support, with approval ratings of 76% and indications that it could win a majority in new parliamentary elections.
Additionally, Hamas has higher approval ratings than the Palestinian Authority in both the West Bank and Gaza.
Despite Kirby’s statement, the data suggests a significant level of support for Hamas among Palestinians.
“Several polls show Hamas is backed by a majority, or at least a plurality, of Palestinians,” the report noted.
“Polling data contradict Kirby’s claim. One poll by a Palestinian university in November showed Hamas with 76% approval. A more recent poll found that ‘if new parliamentary elections were held today,’ Hamas would win a majority, though it only enjoyed a plurality of support three months ago,” the report added.
“The Palestinian Authority has 23% approval in the West Bank and 21% in Gaza; Hamas, by contrast, enjoys 85% approval in the West Bank, and 52% approval in Gaza — a majority, despite the devastation of the war.”
