President Joe Biden’s recent statement to Democrat donors that he might not seek re-election if Donald Trump ran again has stirred controversy.
CNN hosts and guests criticized Biden’s admission, questioning the wisdom of such a statement and highlighting the potential implications.
“If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running. But we cannot let him win,” Biden said. (Trending: Trump Announces Major Promise For 2024)

“Is this the kind of admission a candidate should be making?” CNN’s Jake Tapper asked.
“What if Donald Trump is not the Republican nominee? Does that mean President Biden is going to reconsider his re-election effort if that is the key rationale for his running?” he asked.
“The guy has been trying to run for president his entire life. I don’t believe he’d be … willingly … um … giving up the presidency on his own if it were not Donald Trump,” Michael LaRosa said.
Many have also taken notice of the way in which Democrats are targeting Trump personally, something the former President has recently leveraged in his campaign.
“This really is part of his argument overall, is that Biden is personally out to get him,” Kristen Holmes said of Trump.
“That they are, quote-unquote, ‘targeting’ him, with these indictments.”
“And that is going to be part of this.”
“It’s the same argument that he’s been saying for months, which is that Joe Biden is against democracy because he is, quote-unquote, ‘coming after’ him,” Holmes pressed.
“If these four indictments are Joe Biden using the Justice Department against Donald Trump, his political opponent … I do want to be very clear, when I talk to his supporters at these rallies, they believe it. When he made this speech, they were cheering.”
