President Biden’s campaign is not yet committing to general election debates in 2024, indicating a potential break from the tradition.

The campaign’s deputy manager mentioned that they will consider the schedule released by the Commission on Presidential Debates but are currently focused on building a competitive campaign.

“We will have those conversations,” campaign manager Quentin Fulks said. (Trending: Elon Musk Condemns Arrest Of Jan 6 Protester)

“But right now, our focus is on making sure we continue to build out a campaign and infrastructure that’s going to be able to be competitive in 2024.”

Meanwhile, former President Trump, though skipping GOP primary debates, has expressed the need for debates in the general election.

“We have to debate,” Trump said of Biden.

“He and I have to definitely debate. That’s what I love. The two of us have to debate.”

The Republican National Committee is unlikely to sanction any general election debates organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates, having voted to withdraw from such debates.

The commission’s schedule includes three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate next fall.
