A surge of mainly adult male migrants from various countries, including Africa and the Middle East, has overwhelmed the Arizona border, with hundreds waiting to be processed into the U.S.
The Tucson Sector has seen record numbers of crossings, with nearly 3,000 encounters in a single day and 17,500 in a week, the highest ever recorded.

Rep. Juan Ciscomani said, the “Tucson Sector is leading in encounters and our agents and officers are overrun and undermanned.”
Adding, “The situation is far past a breaking point and those on the frontlines of this crisis are in need of immediate support.”
The National Border Patrol Council’s Art Del Cueto told reporters, “It takes a toll on the men and women [of Border Patrol] that are out there putting their lives on the line each and every day
The Biden administration is seeking more funding for border operations and has proposed a comprehensive immigration bill, while Republicans have introduced their own bill focusing on border security and asylum limits.
The situation has put a strain on Border Patrol, with records being broken for migrant encounters.
