Milei’s office wrote in a statement, “The president-elect received a call last night from the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, who congratulated him and pointed out his triumph by a wide margin in last Sunday’s election had a great impact on a global scale.”
Milei had reportedly already spoken to Biden about “the strong relationship between the United States and Argentina on economic issues, on regional and multilateral cooperation, and on shared priorities, including advocating for the protection of human rights, addressing food insecurity and investing in clean energy.”
After Milei’s victory, Trump congratulated him and expressed hope for collaboration if he defeats President Biden.
“The whole world was watching and I am very proud of you, that you will turn your country around and truly make Argentina great again. Congratulations,” wrote Trump.
“Never embrace the ideals of socialism. Never allow yourselves to be seduced by the siren song of social justice,” exclaimed Milei along his campaign.
Milei, a self-described “anarcho-capitalist,” aims to dismantle Argentina’s federal bureaucracy and opposes socialism, advocating for freedom and reform.
He has called on Trump to continue fighting socialism, as he believes it is a battle against statists.
