Kelsey Hatcher from Alabama, born with two uteruses, is now pregnant with two babies, one in each uterus.
The condition is extremely rare, occurring in only 0.3% of women.
“Very, very rare. Yes. OB/GYNs go their whole careers without seeing anything like this,” OB/GYN Dr. Shweta Patel said. (Trending: Jury Reaches Verdict In Paul Pelosi Hammer Case)
Kelsey Hatcher learned she had a double uterus at 17. With each of her three previous pregnancies, she had a single baby carried in one uterus.
This time around, things are a little different: She's expecting two babies — one in each uterus.

Hatcher, already a mother of three, faces the challenge of navigating uncharted territory as she approaches her due date.
“If I let myself dwell on it too much, it can be overwhelming and scary. But I just try to focus on the positive and know that I’m in the best of hands in our area, and things will turn out great,” Hatcher said.
“When I first found out, I was like, ‘I wonder if there’s anybody I can reach out to just to, you know, see what their experiences were,’” she added.
“But I think I’ve only read of two other cases [in which] they’ve had [pregnancies] in completely separate uteruses, and no one that I’ve been able to reach out to,” she said.
With very few similar cases, she has limited resources for firsthand knowledge and support.
Her pregnancy, expected to be the subject of a case study, may require a Caesarean section due to potential complications.
Despite the rarity, her OB/GYN refers to the babies as twins due to the lack of a better medical term for such a unique situation.
“I think medically, this is such a rare thing that we don’t have a better way of describing it besides still calling them twins,” Dr. Patel said.
Kelsey Hatcher was born with uterine didelphys, or double uterus. At her eight-week ultrasound appointment, she learned she was expecting two babies who are each in their own uterus.https://t.co/WlB8inBku9 pic.twitter.com/gVnQY0PH1j
