California Builds Wall, But Not to Protect Americans

via NBC News

Security barriers were erected around San Francisco’s Moscone Center for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, aimed at protecting foreign leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

President Joe Biden is set to meet with Xi during the summit.

Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed that the city cleanup was prompted by the APEC Summit, although he emphasized that the “Clean California” initiative began in 2021.

“I know folks say, ‘Oh, they’re just cleaning up this place because all these fancy leaders are coming into town.’ That’s true because it’s true, but it’s also true for months and months and months prior to APEC we’ve been having conversations,” claimed the governor.

“This predates APEC, but APEC is a forcing function and that’s always a positive thing,” Newsom told reporters.

Adding, “Any time there is a large event, it just focuses the mind, keeps everybody on the same agenda and we always want to put our best face forward. But the goal here is it’s not a situational commitment.

Newsom claimed, “This is a long term strategy. It began in July of 2021.”

“I mean anytime you put on an event, by definition, you have people over your house you’re going to clean up the house. You’re going to make sure the kids make their beds, take the socks put them in the hamper” explained Newsom.

There is a stark ironic contrast between the erecting of barriers for the summit and previous opposition to border wall funding by Democrats like California’s Gavin Newsom and Nancy Pelosi.
