A hot mic captured Biden telling Macron at a D-Day commemoration event that Biden needed to be the first to leave because he holds people up.

“My advance team said I gotta leave, be the first one to leave, because I hold people up,” Biden said.

Later at the event, Biden seemed ready to sit down while standing with Jill Biden, Macron and his wife.

True to his word, Biden left the stage quickly after the event ended, while Macron stayed behind longer to greet veterans.

The Normandy invasion on D-Day was the largest amphibious operation in history, involving over 150,000 troops crossing the English Channel to storm five beaches in Nazi-occupied northern France on June 6, 1944.

“Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you,” Gen. Dwight Eisenhower said at the time.

“Good luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.”

It marked a major turning point in World War 2, nearly five years after Hitler had plunged Europe into war. The allied operation commemorated the sacrifices made in liberating Europe from Nazi Germany.
