British comedian Ricky Gervais has taken an unexpected stance by supporting conservatives in current cultural disputes.
As an atheist known for his progressive views, Gervais has criticized the hypocrisy of the left, especially privileged individuals in Western culture.
Following his critique of celebrity activism at the 2016 Golden Globes, Gervais has maintained his satirical approach, targeting the intellectual elite with sharp commentary, as seen in a recent viral skit on his X platform.
In an intimate and dramatic close-up shot, Gervais created a black and white video of himself sitting in a bathtub.
This parody not only mocks Madonna’s strange bathtub video related to COVID in 2020 but also satirizes the awkward “I take responsibility” video from the same year.
In the latter, numerous celebrities publicly “owned their racism” in response to the Black Lives Matter protests, a move Gervais humorously references in his bathtub skit.
Gervais said, “Hi guys, Ricky G. here, wellness and beauty influencer.” Gervais proceeded to say, “as a celebrity, I know all about stuff. Like science and politics, so trust me when I tell you who you should vote for.”
In a firm tone, Gervais equated voting against certain beliefs to a hate crime and expressed disappointment, hinting at leaving the country.
Reflecting on celebrities who vowed to depart if Trump won in 2016, none fulfilled their pledge, diminishing their integrity. Despite not widely seen as conservative, Gervais boldly critiques woke culture’s inconsistencies and irrationality.
At 2016 Golden Globes, he told Hollywood elites, “You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.”
Gervais faced backlash for critiquing transgender issues in his 2022 comedy special “SuperNature,” targeting left-leaning celebrities without naming specific political affiliations.
His references to “hate crime” and leaving the country notably criticize the political left. Despite the controversy, Gervais’s satire resonated with audiences, evident from the video’s high view count and positive reception.
Since June 9, the video has gained over 2 million views with 31,000 “likes” and around 2,000 mostly positive comments. Viewers resonate with Gervais’s critique of celebrities’ overt political virtue-signaling in a society marked by conformity.
Gervais’s willingness to challenge woke hypocrisy has garnered support, indicating a demand for more comedians unafraid to be bold and honest like him.
