Crow Creek Sioux tribe

The Crow Creek Sioux tribe joined others in denouncing a far-right Republican for offensive remarks made earlier this year, suggesting that Indigenous leaders have connections to drug cartels.

Personally benefiting

“We’ve got some tribal leaders that I believe are personally benefiting from the cartels being there, and that’s why they attack me every day,” Noem claimed back in March.

Indigenous families

Additionally, she made comments regarding Indigenous families: “Their kids don’t have any hope. They don’t have parents who show up and help them.”

Political agenda

“They have a tribal council or a president who focuses on a political agenda more than they care about actually helping somebody’s life look better.”

Kyle Loudner

Kyle Loudner, a member of the Crow Creek Sioux tribal council, informed The Dakota Scout that “the people voted unanimously to ban her along with the tribal council for her derogatory remarks about the tribes and cartels.”

Nobodies

Loudner added, the ban was also in response to “the remarks she made about the children being nobodies their whole lives because of the parents.”

Oglala Sioux tribe

Prior to this, she had already been barred by the Oglala Sioux tribe, the Cheyenne River Sioux tribe, the Rosebud Sioux tribe, and the Standing Rock Sioux tribe.

Widespread criticism

Her admission in a memoir about shooting one of her dogs due to its behavior sparked widespread criticism.

Prohibiting Noem

Following recent bans by the Yankton Sioux tribe and Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate tribe, the Crow Creek Sioux tribe joined others in prohibiting Noem from entering their territories.

Imposed a ban

Only the Lower Brule and Flandreau Santee Sioux tribe reservations in South Dakota have not yet imposed a ban on the governor.

Backlash

Apart from the backlash over her disparaging remarks towards Indigenous communities, Noem has faced additional controversies.

False claims

Furthermore, false claims in the book about meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and canceling a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron have been refuted by the French government.

Potential running mate

These negative incidents coincided with Noem being considered as a potential running mate for Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
