Reports have revealed the identity of the suspect allegedly involved in assaulting actor Steve Buscemi during a random attack while he was walking in Manhattan.
The NYPD announced on Tuesday evening that Clifton Williams, aged 50, was the individual who reportedly punched Buscemi in the face, as per Fox 5 New York.
The 66-year-old actor from “Fargo” and “Boardwalk Empire” was attacked just before noon in midtown Manhattan and was later taken to a nearby hospital with injuries to his left eye.
Witnesses informed local station ABC 7 that Buscemi pursued Williams but was unable to apprehend him.
Buscemi’s spokesperson confirmed the incident to Fox News Digital after the assault.
A representative for Buscemi had previously informed Fox News Digital saying, “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city.
He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to [him] while also walking the streets of NY.”
The New York Police Department released a statement regarding the assault on Wednesday, without mentioning Buscemi as the victim.
Buscemi, a Brooklyn native, is a revered figure in New York and a former New York firefighter who assisted his former team at Ground Zero during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
On March 31, Buscemi’s “Boardwalk Empire” co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was struck in the back of the neck with a rock while strolling in Central Park. Stuhlbarg managed to apprehend his assailant, who was later arrested outside the park.
