Meta (Facebook/Instagram) will begin labeling AI-generated media in May to address potential manipulation.
Content policy VP Monika Bickert said the company will apply “Made with AI” labels to deepfakes and other AI-altered videos, images and audio.
More prominent “high risk” labels will also flag content that could greatly mislead the public.
This expands Meta’s previous approach focused on a narrow set of doctored videos.
The labels will provide viewers information on manipulated content while keeping it accessible.
Critics remain skeptical of Meta/Zuckerberg’s motives, citing past censorship of stories like Hunter Biden’s laptop, and will scrutinize how the new policy is implemented to prevent political bias in the labeling process.
