The Biden campaign believes they can flip Florida from red to blue in the 2024 presidential election.
They argue that ongoing legal troubles and financial penalties facing former President Trump have weakened his campaign and coalition in the swing state.
Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez outlined this assessment in a memo, claiming Florida’s Democratic coalition is growing and energized while Republican policies under Rick Scott have hurt residents.
“Make no mistake: Florida is not an easy state to win, but it is a winnable one for President Biden, especially given Trump’s weak, cash-strapped campaign, and serious vulnerabilities within his coalition,” Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez wrote.
However, Florida has trended Republican in recent decades, though it has a history of switching between the parties.
Trump won the state in both 2016 and 2020, and while Biden aims to compete there, flipping Florida would be challenging given its Republican lean.
The Biden team sees legal vulnerabilities for Trump as an opening to potentially capture the prized swing state.
