Comedian Ramy Youssef used his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live to jokingly advocate for having a transgender woman as the next U.S. president and mock Trump supporters.

He concluded by making a sincere plea for peace in Palestine and an end to the suffering of Ahmed’s family there.

“I really think our next president should be a woman. You know what I mean?” Youssef said, adding, “I think our next president should be a trans woman.”

“New York’s like, we’re liberal… but we’re Italian,” Youssef said.

Youssef said he traveled to upstate New York where he witnessed “all this Trump stuff. Flags, red hats. I was like, yo, I went north but I’m south, and I could feel it. “

His comments coincided with President Biden recently declaring Easter Sunday as Transgender Day of Visibility and came after Youssef had used his comedy tour to raise aid money for Gaza and advocated for a ceasefire there along with other celebrities at the Oscars.

“My God, please, please help Ahmed’s family. Please stop the suffering. Stop the violence. Please free the people of Palestine. Please.”

“We’re calling for immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza. We’re calling for peace and lasting justice for the people of Palestine,” Youssef said.
