The judge in Kari Lake’s defamation lawsuit ruled against her by default after her lawyers implied she would not challenge the claims, admitting guilt.
This means Lake is legally deemed to have defamed Stephen Richer, the Maricopa County recorder, for statements calling him corrupt and untruthful in his handling of the 2022 election.
While Lake continued claiming publicly she stood by her statements, the judge noted a defaulted party loses the right to argue the case’s merits.
“I stand by everything I’ve said, by the way. I’ve always been truthful in everything I’ve said about this rigged election and they want to find … they want to get a jury and find me guilty,” Lake said.
“And I’m not going to go into this without fighting because I have a right to speak out … We’ll be subpoenaing all kinds of records from Stephen Richer pertaining to this rigged election that he was part and parcel to.”
Richer said the ruling confirms Lake lied about him and Arizona’s election.
“We now have a judgment saying that Kari Lake lied about me, lied to the world, lied to Arizona, lied about the 2022 election,” Richer said.
The next step will be determining damages to award Richer for harm to his reputation from Lake’s statements, including death threats he received.
Lake’s public boasts of fighting and exposing corruption through discovery were empty, as she did not actually defend herself in court where it mattered.
“Well, discovery goes both ways. I TRULY look forward to that. I stand by everything I’ve said. I’ve always been truthful when I’ve talked about elections. This crooked political machine will not stop me from exposing their corruption & fighting to take our country back,” Lake said.
The ruling directly contradicted her claims and exposed her own actions instead.
