An antisemitic riot broke out at a Berkeley, California city council meeting intended to discuss plans for Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Video posted by the Jewish Community Relations Council showed anti-Jewish language and behavior from the mob.

Berkeley’s mayor condemned the “hateful and deeply antisemitic” disruption, including heckling Holocaust survivors. He said threats, hate speech, and attempts to co-opt the meeting will not be tolerated.

“I am outraged over the hateful and deeply antisemitic behavior we saw at Tuesday’s Council meeting. Heckling people including Holocaust survivors, then co-opting its message for an anti-Jewish agenda, threats and hate speech will not be tolerated. We will not be intimidated,” mayor Jesse Arreguin said.

The University of California, Berkeley campus has long been a center of radical activism and is considered one of the most antisemitic college campuses.

Jewish students report being barred from campus gates and subject to harassment by pro-Palestinian groups.

Congress is investigating antisemitism at Berkeley and other universities.
