Donald Trump avoided directly blaming Vladimir Putin for the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in a Russian prison.
When asked if he held Putin responsible, Trump said “I don’t know, but perhaps, I mean possibly, I could say probably.”
“He’s a young man, so statistically he’d be alive for a long time. If you go by the insurance numbers, he’d be alive for another 40 years. So something happened that was unusual,” Trump said.

I don’t know.” He noted Navalny’s young age and said “something happened that was unusual.”
While many world leaders have accused Putin, Trump, who has long admired Putin, would not go that far.
He said “certainly that would look like something very bad happened, right?” but stopped short of directly implicating Putin in the death of the Kremlin critic Navalny.
