According to reports, a Venezuelan gang member who was released into the U.S. by the Biden administration’s DHS is now accused of a drive-by shooting in Chicago.

The 29-year-old illegal alien, associated with Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang, was first encountered at the southern border in July and released on an order with an immigration court deportation order issued in July.

In February, he was arrested in Cicero, IL and charged with weapons offenses related to the Chicago shooting but released due to Chicago’s sanctuary policy rather than being turned over to ICE.

ICE agents later arrested him and he remains in ICE custody pending deportation, though Venezuela often refuses to accept returns.

ICE said he represented a threat due to his gang ties and willingness to fire a gun in public.

“This Venezuelan noncitizen represented a significant threat to the residents of our communities,” ICE’s Raymond Hernandez said. “Not only is he a validated member of a transnational street gang, but he also displayed a willingness to unlawfully discharge a firearm in public.”
