The executive director of the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Arkansas, Bryan Malinowski, was shot in the head during a gunfight with ATF agents who were serving a search warrant at his home.

According to his brother, Malinowski was critically wounded and not expected to survive.

“It’s all speculation at this point,” said Malinowski’s older brother, Matthew Malinowski. “I got a feeling that he bought something he shouldn’t have. That’s the only thing I can think of.”

“That’s the circle he ran in,” he said.

The ATF declined to provide details about the warrant.

“The subject of the investigation was injured with gunshot wounds and treated on scene by paramedics before being transported to a local hospital,” the ATF stated.

Malinowski was a prominent figure as airport director, with responsibilities over 2,000 employees and high annual earnings.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots during the early morning incident.

“I heard about five or six, like, loud bangs,” neighbor Shea De Bruyn said. “My heart was racing and the dogs were barking. I’m just really curious as to what was going on just a few houses down.”

“That’s my baby. That’s one of my babies,” Malinowski’s mother, Barbara Haigh said.

In the aftermath, the airport commission chairman named an interim director while Malinowski remained hospitalized.

“Today’s incident saddens us, and we pray for everyone involved,” Airport Commission Chairman Bill Walker said. “As the chairman of the Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission, I have named Tom Clarke, the airport’s deputy executive director, as acting executive director. The airport’s day-to-day operations continue as normal.”

The shooting shocked those close to Malinowski, as he had no known enemies and a successful career.

“When you’re in that position, life is great. Why would you screw it up with a small infraction?” Matthew Malinowski said. “He always kept his nose clean. He had no enemies that I know of.”
