Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) faces a runoff against Second Amendment activist Brandon Herrera in Texas’s 23rd congressional district after failing to secure a majority in the Republican primary.
Gonzales aligns with the Republican establishment on key issues like gun laws and immigration, supporting the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act” and opposing measures like the “Border Safety and Security Act.”
Herrera, a small business owner in firearm manufacturing, advocates for Second Amendment rights.
Gonzales emphasizes the importance of upholding legitimate asylum claims and criticizes efforts to ban them as un-Christian and anti-American.
“We can’t allow the Republican Party to be hijacked,” Gonzales said of the bill. “Trying to ban legitimate asylum claims — one, it’s not Christian, and two, to me, it’s very anti-American. So a lot is at stake.”
