House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has subpoenaed HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra for records on Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) who committed crimes in the U.S. after being released by HHS.
Jordan criticized HHS for mismanagement, citing cases of UACs charged with serious crimes.
“The Committee on the Judiciary is conducting oversight of the Department of Health and Human Services’ mismanagement of the placement of UACs,” Jordan wrote.
The Committee alleged HHS’s failure to provide requested case files on criminal UACs and questions the agency’s handling of UACs placed with adult sponsors.
Concerns about UAC program’s ties to child trafficking and labor exploitation have been raised, with thousands of UACs reportedly lost after placement with sponsors.
