Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin surprised viewers with a performance of Garth Brooks’ hit song “Friends in Low Places” on the FOX show “We Are Family” alongside her cousin JD.

The show features non-famous relatives of celebrities singing duets before revealing which celebrity they are related to.

Anthony Anderson, the host of We Are Family, asked, “Sarah, how are you related to JD?”

Palin replied, “He is my cuz.”

Anderson moved to JD and asked, “How was it when you found out that your cousin was putting her name in the hat to run for Vice President?”

JD said, “It was mind boggling for our entire family.”

“It was a heck of a ride, but it was fun. We were very proud of her,” added the cousin.

Palin was revealed as the famous family member of contestant JD, who then won $10,000 for correctly guessing she was his cousin.

When asked about learning of Palin’s nomination as the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008, JD said it was mind boggling for their entire family but that they were very proud of her high-profile political career.

Palin delivered an unannounced musical appearance on the family singing competition series alongside her cousin.
