Republican pollster Frank Luntz warned that Democrat Tom Suozzi’s victory in the New York special election to fill a House seat was a “final wakeup call” for House Republicans.
Suozzi defeated Republican candidate Mazi Pilip in the special election for New York’s 3rd Congressional District seat vacated after the expulsion of former Rep. George Santos.
Luntz said on social media that if Republicans ignore or attempt to explain away why they lost this seat, they are at risk of further losses in the November midterm elections.
Luntz posted, “Democrats just flipped George Santos’ #NY03 House seat.”
“Tonight is the final wakeup call for the @HouseGOP. If they ignore or attempt to explain away why they lost, they will lose in November as well,” he continued.
“The issue agenda is on their side. Their congressional behavior is not,” explained the pollster.
He argued the GOP’s issue agenda is in their favor but their congressional behavior is not.
Suozzi had emphasized his long ties representing the district previously for six years, regaining the seat for Democrats and further narrowing the GOP’s House majority.
