Lara Trump, married to Eric Trump and daughter-in-law of Donald Trump, stated her intention if elected co-chair of the RNC would be to use all party funds exclusively for Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
During a Newsmax interview, she promised “every single penny” would go towards “elected Donald J. Trump as president” rather than other Republican candidates or party-building activities.
Lara Trump said, the “RNC needs to be the leanest, most lethal political fighting machine we’ve ever seen in American history.”
“If I am elected to this position, I can assure you, there will not be any more $70,000 — or whatever exorbitant amount of money it was — spent on flowers,” she continued.
“Every single penny will go to the No. 1 and the only job of the RNC — that is elected Donald J. Trump as president of the United States and saving this country,” promised Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law.
While Donald Trump endorsed her for the position, some Republican strategists argued her singular focus on Trump contradicts the RNC’s broader role in supporting the party nationally, and could undermine other GOP candidates.
Donald Trump said Lara was “an extremely talented communicator who is dedicated to all that MAGA stands for.”
Attorney Bradley Moss posted, “No one tell her the RNC is supposed to be in charge of assisting the entire party at the federal, state and local level. Not just Trump’s personal slush fund.”
GOP strategist Bobby Trivett said, Lara Trump has “no interest in Republican Victory up and down the ballot, she just wants Trump legal fees paid.”
Legal experts and political operatives criticized Lara Trump’s view of the RNC as primarily a vehicle to finance Trump’s personal and legal interests rather than aiding the Republican party as a whole.
