The student-led anti-gun violence organization March for Our Lives spoke out against the mass shooting that occurred during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, calling gun violence a “uniquely American problem.”

They deemed the tragedy “depressingly American” given it took place on the anniversary of another mass shooting at a celebration.

“There is something so depressingly American about experiencing a mass shooting at a Super Bowl celebration on the anniversary of another mass shooting,” March for Our Lives wrote on X.

March for Our Lives criticized lax US gun laws and called on leaders to take action to curb recurring violence.

Formed after the Parkland shooting, the group advocates for youth civic engagement and direct action to end gun violence.

“Nothing more American than a shooting at a parade. Children shot while celebrating. An entire community forever changed. It doesn’t have to be this way,” they later said.

“Today, it’s a Super Bowl parade; tomorrow, the cycle repeats,” they wrote. “In a nation gripped by gun violence, fear destroys days of celebration and love. How can we celebrate when every day is stained with blood? We need our leaders to STEP UP, or we’ll continue to die.”

“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all of Kansas City,” the The Kansas City Chiefs stated. “We are in close communication with the mayor’s office as well as the Kansas City Police Department. At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.”

One woman was killed and 22 others injured, including 11 children, during the Kansas City shooting for which suspects have been detained but no charges filed.
