Megan Fox received backlash over an Instagram post where she jokingly compared her appearance in photos from a Super Bowl party to a “Ukrainian blowup doll.”
Fox wrote, “Oh my god guys look how different i… dont look at all.”
She continued, “turns out it was just a shadowy cell phone pic of me looking like a ukrainian blowup doll.”
Fox added, “When in REALITY i look like one of those super expensive silicone real sex dolls you can only get in japan.”
Some commenters found the remark offensive given Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Fox defended the comment as not intending to disparage Ukrainian women. She received additional criticism over insensitivity to Ukraine’s situation and suffering.
While some comments focused on the celebrity sighting at the party, the post reignited criticism of Fox making light of religions in past Halloween costumes with Machine Gun Kelly.
One commenter responded, “It’s very rude of you to speak like that about Ukrainian women, that’s how you showed yourself.”
“Dear god. that is NOT what I meant,” replied Fox.
“Ukrainian women are hot af and so in my imagination the blowup dolls would also be hot. let a girl make a joke for [expletive] sake,” she clarified.
“While Ukrainian women, Ukrainian people are going through the pure hell of genocide and extermination on a daily basis, you joke on blow up girls. Make some research on the context before speaking again. Words need responsibility,” insisted another user.
Another commenter wrote, “Come to Ukraine and see what Ukrainian women are, who we are and what are we going through – daily. To realise what a catastrophic disrespectful shame you just written.”
Their deleted video depicting a priest giving communion was slammed as mocking Christianity.
The actress has faced online ridicule before over perceived religious insensitivity in her social media posts.
