Controversial soccer star Megan Rapinoe mocked Christians during a recent podcast for being upset over comments she made suggesting her recent injury proved God does not exist.

When addressing the remarks, Rapinoe snarked that “somebody needs to check on the Christians” and that they “missed the whole joke.”

“Somebody needs to check on the Christians. They’re not okay,” Rapinoe said. “They also missed the whole joke, but okay.”

She referred to finding humor in making digs at God, herself, religion or the world.

“Don’t act like you’re surprised by me making this joke about what happened or finding a dig,” she said. “Who’s it at? God, myself, religion, the world? I don’t know. It’s just funny.”

“I’m just thinking about my teammates coming over and — of course, it’s sad, but it’s also like — I don’t know, it’s kind of just like life,” she said.

Rapinoe, who is known for prior anthem kneeling and left-wing advocacy, acknowledged some celebrated her injury but deemed them disingenuous and “in a special place in hell.”

“We want these perfect stories, and I’m like a controversial figure and having people low-key celebrate it. But then also be so disingenuous about it that that part is kinda funny, too. I’m like, wow, you guys are in a special place in hell that you’re celebrating this,” she said.

Previously, she dismissed concerns about fairness in girls’ sports with the inclusion of transgender athletes, encouraging people to not make children’s sports a top priority.

Rapinoe has courted controversy with her political and social stances throughout her career.

People “need to understand that sports is not the most important thing in life,” Rapinoe said in 2022.

“I would also encourage everyone out there who is afraid someone’s going to have an unfair advantage over their kid to really take a step back and think what are we actually talking about here,” she said. “We’re talking about people’s lives. I’m sorry, your kid’s high school volleyball team just isn’t that important.”
