In a recent special congressional election in New York, the GOP suffered a setback, which Nikki Haley’s campaign used to criticize Donald Trump’s influence on the party.
Haley has been emphasizing the need for new conservative leadership and has been campaigning against Trump’s influence.
Haley’s campaign spokeswoman, Olvia Perez-Cubas wrote, “Let’s just say the quiet part out loud. Donald Trump continues to be a huge weight against Republican candidates.”
“Despite the enormous and obvious failings of Joe Biden, we just lost another winnable Republican House seat because voters overwhelmingly reject Donald Trump,” she continued.
“Until Republicans wake up, we will continue to lose. Time for a new generation of conservative leadership that doesn’t turn off the American people,” added the spokeswoman.
Despite Trump’s strong lead in polls, Haley continues to attack him, launching TV ads and emphasizing the “chaos” she claims would ensue if Trump returns to the White House.
The election was seen as a bellwether for the upcoming November White House rematch between Trump and Biden.
The GOP’s majority in the House is now further threatened after the Democratic victory in the special election.
Trump also had a public back-and-forth with the defeated GOP candidate, Mazi Pilip.
Trump wrote, “Republicans just don’t learn, but maybe she was still a Democrat? I have an almost 99% Endorsement Success Rate in Primaries, and a very good number in the General Elections, as well, but just watched this very foolish woman, Mazi Melesa Pilip, running in a race where she didn’t endorse me and tried to ‘straddle the fence,’ when she would have easily WON if she understood anything about MODERN DAY politics in America.”
Both Trump and Haley have been actively campaigning in South Carolina, with Trump holding a rally and Haley embarking on a bus tour.
Despite pressure to drop out of the race, Haley is continuing her campaign in various states.
