Catherine Herridge, a veteran CBS News correspondent renowned for her coverage of national security and intelligence, was among 800 positions cut in a restructuring at Paramount Global.
Reports indicate Herridge’s termination was at least partly due to clashes with CBS News president Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews, who had faced prior allegations of discrimination.
Other Washington correspondents like Jeff Pegues and Christina Ruffini were also laid off.
Herridge previously attracted attention for resisting a court order to disclose confidential sources from her reporting at Fox News in 2017 on an FBI investigation, citing First Amendment protections for journalists, though she now faces potential contempt charges without Fox News’ legal support.
The cuts have ignited debate around balancing press freedom and legal obligations.
