Two North Carolina men, Christopher Carnell and David Worth Bowman, have been found guilty of obstructing an official proceeding and several misdemeanor charges related to their actions during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Their disruptive behavior included entering restricted areas, disrupting congressional proceedings, and engaging in disorderly conduct.
The men traveled from North Carolina to Washington D.C., participated in the rally at the Ellipse, and then entered the Capitol building, where they joined a crowd of rioters and unlawfully entered the Senate Chamber.
Their actions were confirmed through open-source videos and text messages.
The Department of Justice wrote, “The men then traveled into and through the Rotunda while Carnell chanted, ‘TREASON, TREASON, TREASON’ with others in the mob.”
“The two then ascended the Rotunda Lobby East Stairs and observed other rioters physically attacking a journalist,” the agency’s statement continued.
They are set to be sentenced on June 14 after being arrested by the FBI in North Carolina last year.
