The FBI arrested former State Department diplomatic security officer Kevin Alstrup in connection with the U.S. Capitol protest on Jan. 6, 2021.

Alstrup faces four misdemeanor charges similar to those given to other protesters who entered the Capitol.

The FBI affidavit states that Alstrup “was employed by the United States Department of State (USDOS) as a Diplomatic Security Officer (DSO).

The agency alleged that Alstrup was “familiar with providing security and protection for high-ranking government officials or sensitive locations, like embassies.”

He was identified through an email address found in a government search warrant for devices inside the Capitol, and his role as a Diplomatic Security Officer suggests familiarity with providing security for high-ranking officials or sensitive locations.

This arrest is part of the ongoing legal action against over 1,200 individuals charged in connection with the protests.
