Edith “Edie” Recagno Keenan Ceccarelli, the oldest person in the United States, celebrated her 116th birthday in Willits, California, where she was born and resides.
Despite rainy and windy conditions, the town honored her with a parade led by police and fire officials, drawing a remarkable turnout.
Ceccarelli, born in 1908, has witnessed significant historical events, and she is not only the oldest American but also the second-oldest person in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Ceccarelli’s friend, Evelyn Perisco said, “I’m sure [the bad weather] put a damper on some people, but the amount of people that drove by, we had just an incredible turnout. … This is an incredible town with the way people are in support. It’s awesome.”
