Senator James Lankford’s “Bipartisan Border Deal” worth $118 billion, which includes aid for Ukraine and Israel, faces resistance from Donald Trump and conservative Republicans.
Lankford’s support for the bill led to calls for his resignation, while President Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas praised the bipartisan agreement.
However, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson deemed the bill “dead on arrival,” and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to initiate a vote despite opposition from both sides.

“Our immigration laws have been weak for years,” Lankford said. “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to stop the chaos & protect our nation.”
“We’ve reached an agreement on a bipartisan deal that includes the toughest and fairest set of border reforms in decades,” Biden said. “And it includes support for Ukraine and Israel and provides humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people. I urge Congress to pass this bill immediately.”
The deal aims to enhance border security and address immigration challenges, but faces hurdles in Congress.
“The bipartisan agreement in the Senate is tough, fair, and takes meaningful steps to address the challenges our country faces after decades of Congressional inaction,” Mayorkas wrote.
“If rumors about the contents of the draft proposal are true, it would have be dead on arrival in the House anyway,” Johnson wrote.
“The priorities in this bill are too important to ignore and too vital to allow politics to get in the way,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer stated. “The United States and our allies are facing multiple, complex and, in places, coordinated challenges from adversaries who seek to disrupt democracy and expand authoritarian influence around the globe.”
