Toby Keith, the country singer, passed away at 62 after battling stomach cancer.
Despite his diagnosis, he continued to perform, including shows in Las Vegas and an appearance at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards.
He received the Country Music Icon Award and expressed gratitude to his fans and team.
“Bet you thought you’d never see me in skinny jeans,” Keith joked. “I want to thank the almighty for allowing me to be here tonight. You’ve been riding shotgun with me for a little while.”
“A lot of people go into making a big career like this of 30 years.”
“Most of all I want to thank the fans for still allowing us to do what we do,” he added.
Keith’s family confirmed his peaceful passing and requested privacy.
“Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on Feb. 5 surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage,” the family said.
“Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”
