Former President Donald Trump suggested possible changes at the Republican National Committee, casting doubt on the future of current chair Ronna McDaniel.
The RNC has faced financial struggles and political setbacks, with Trump indicating that changes may be forthcoming.
The party also dealt with controversy over a resolution to declare Trump the presumptive nominee, despite Nikki Haley still being in the race.
“I think she did great when she ran Michigan for me, I think she did OK initially in the RNC,” Trump said. “I would say right now there will probably be some changes made.”
McDaniel has expressed support for Trump, but questions have arisen about her leadership.
“I think she’s run a great campaign,” McDaniel said of Haley. “But I do think there is a message that’s coming out from the voters, which is very clear. We need to unite around our eventual nominee, which is going to be Donald Trump.”
She has indicated a willingness to step aside if the eventual nominee prefers another chairperson, a move that would be unprecedented just months before the Republican National Convention.
