Former President Trump’s fundraising committees spent around $50 million on legal consulting in 2023, with $30 million spent in the second half of the year.
The top-paid lawyer, Chris Kise, earned nearly $9 million and represented Trump in the New York attorney general’s civil fraud case.
Another firm, Robert & Robert, earned nearly $5.3 million for representing Trump’s sons and their business in the same case.
“Mr. Trump never directed you to inflate the numbers in his personal statement. Yes or no?” Clifford Robert asked Michael Cohen.
“Yes,” Cohen said.
The legal expenses are linked to Trump’s 91 criminal charges and various civil lawsuits, including a federal criminal case over mishandling of classified documents.
