The impeachment inquiry has requested the National Archives to provide all drafts of Joe Biden’s speech about firing Viktor Shokin, the prosecutor of Burisma Holdings.
Joe Biden had bragged about pushing for Shokin’s removal in exchange for a $1 billion loan guarantee to Ukraine.
The White House has refused to release the original drafts to Congress.
The House Oversight Committee argues that Biden threatened to withhold U.S. aid to Ukraine until Shokin was fired.
The Oversight Committee wrote, “This White House has previously permitted NARA to provide Congress with presidential records related to the Trump Administration after only one month of White House review.”
“We expect the White House to do the same in this instance,” the letter continued.
“Such a lengthy delay in processing a discrete and limited category of documents is unacceptable and appears to represent an attempt to obstruct the Committees’ legitimate investigation,” explained the lawmakers.
“These dilatory tactics must cease, and the White House must permit NARA to release these documents forthwith,” they concluded.
The inquiry demands the White House to allow NARA to release the documents promptly to avoid obstructing the investigation.
