Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign is addressing a situation in Indiana where a GOP primary candidate, John Rust, is using Trump’s likeness in an ad to attack Rep. Jim Banks, who is the actual Trump-endorsed candidate for the U.S. Senate.
The ad compares Rust to Trump and suggests that Banks does not align with Trump, despite Trump’s endorsement of Banks.
The Trump campaign has demanded that Rust stop using Trump’s name, image, or likeness, emphasizing Trump’s endorsement of Banks.
A Trump campaign spokesman said, “President Trump’s friend, Jim Banks, is the only candidate in this race endorsed by President Trump.”
“Any other candidate using President Trump’s name, image, or likeness to purposely deceive voters must immediately cease and desist. President Trump looks forward to working with a future Senator Banks in 2025 to accomplish incredible things for the Great State of Indiana and our country,” they continued.
Despite Banks having a clear path to the GOP nomination, Rust, a former Democrat voter, has chosen to run against him.
