Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has faced criticism and controversy over her involvement in high-profile legal cases, including her removal from a case related to the 2020 election results due to a fundraiser for a Democratic candidate.
This has raised concerns about the credibility of her investigations, particularly regarding a Republican candidate.
Notably, she has been accused of misusing county funds to appoint her alleged lover as outside counsel in a case against former President Donald Trump.
Sen. Greg Dolezal pushed for a resolution seeking subpoenas to “secure the attendance of witnesses or the production of documents and materials.”
“[T]he Georgia Senate has the inherent power and authority to conduct investigations into … the expenditure of public funds [and] the conduct of public officers who discharge powers and duties under state law,” the resolution read.
Amidst ongoing scrutiny, the Georgia Senate is considering launching an investigation into allegations of an affair and potential misuse of public funds.
Willis has also faced challenges in her case against Trump, including accusations of a romantic relationship between a special prosecutor hired by her office and a former Trump campaign staffer.
