Former first lady Michelle Obama’s name has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Joe Biden, whose approval ratings have hit a new low.
While deadlines for primary races have passed, the Democratic convention in August could be a potential turning point.
Biden’s low approval ratings and concerns about his mental sharpness have raised questions about his candidacy.

If he were to step aside, potential candidates could include California Governor Gavin Newsom, but Michelle Obama’s high approval ratings make her a compelling option.
Michelle Obama posted, “What’s going to happen in this next election? I am terrified about what could possibly happen because our leaders matter.”
“Who we select, who speaks for us, who holds that bully pulpit, it effects us in ways that sometimes I think people take for granted,” she continued.
“The fact that people think that government — ‘Eh, you know does it really even do anything?’ — and I’m like ‘Oh my God, does government do everything for us, and we cannot take this democracy for granted,’” wrote the former first lady.
“And sometimes I worry that we do. Those are the things that keep me up,” she added.
